FBI Houston agents arrested Andrew David Sikes in Montgomery County on Tuesday morning after he allegedly called U.S. Sen. John Cornyn’s office and made a death threat, KPRC 2 News has confirmed.

The 71-year-old man is accused of threatening to assault and murder a United States official, with intent to impede, intimidate, and interfere with such official while engaged in the performance of official duties.

Sikes made the call on July 3, according to a federal criminal complaint, and threatened to kill the senator in an expletive-laced voicemail.

“You f****** are killing Texans you’re killing people I’m gonna kill you,” Sikes allegedly said on the voicemail, according to court records. “You’re not going to get past this next election.”

FBI agents visited Sikes’ home on July 10, according to the complaint, and he admitted to calling his senator, U.S. congressmen, and possibly Texas representatives.

Sikes allegedly told federal agents he had been “rather infuriated... pretty much everything... pretty much the whole nine yards, tariffs, trade... just got worked up” and that he “blamed them for not doing their job and helping take care of what happened down there,” in reference to children dying from flooding in Kerrville, according to the complaint.

Sikes didn’t have intent to murder anyone or carry out his threats, he told investigators, but admitted to using his cell phone to make the calls and to owning a handgun.

An arrest warrant was issued Monday, according to federal court records, and Sikes was arrested on Tuesday morning, FBI Houston confirmed.

He is scheduled to make his initial federal court appearance downtown on Tuesday afternoon.

KPRC 2 has reached out to the senator’s office for a response.
