KPRC 2 Senior Scholarship: Hitchcock HS senior went from being told she would never walk to becoming dance team captain

Now, Samarian Kingston is off to study medicine at UH this fall

KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with scholarships in 2023. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.

The fifth $2,500 scholarship winner of the year is Samarian Kingston who is currently a senior at Hitchcock High School in the Hitchcock School District.

While in high school, Kingston participated in several organizations such as the National Honor Society and Students Standing Strong, all while maintaining a 3.8 GPA and ranking top five in her senior class of 109 students.

Kingston has faced several battles growing up, the biggest being born with amniotic band syndrome and being told she would never be able to walk and would have to rely on a wheelchair for the rest of her life. But, after several surgeries and therapy, Kingston was able to walk, and eventually became the captain of her high school dance team.

Kingston has been accepted into the University of Houston where she plans to study medicine in hopes of becoming a doctor.
