Do you dig it? At Katy adventure park -- slated to open this week -- kids will get to operate construction equipment

Can you dig it? At Katy’s new amusement park Dig World, the answer is an emphatic “Yes, yes, you can” -- well, almost at least.

The construction-themed adventure park located next to Katy Mills Mall is opening March 17. Dig World is a 3.5-acre establishment will offer the young and the young at heart (Yes, fellow adults, that means you) the opportunity to man powerful earth movers, including excavators and skid steers.

You can book at two-hour reservation here for the attraction at 5000 Katy Mills Circle, Suite 455. The grand opening weekend is through March 20. the company said food trucks and music will be part of the festivities.

In a release last year announcing the park’s arrival, founders Jacob Robinson and Rick Bennett said they were thrilled to offer Houston-area families a rumbling-good time.

“We want to create memorable experiences for families that last a lifetime as well as educate the next generation about construction and all the possibilities that surround that industry,” said Robinson in a statement.

Aside from the park’s main draw, its heavy machinery, Dig World will also have a playground, a gem-mining station, UTV’s, a turf field with yard games, and various other attractions.

Dig World partnered with the Texas A&M University Department of Construction Science, which will provide educational materials for the park.

“The Department of Construction Science is excited to partner with Dig World to create an educational partnership, where future generations can experience and learn about the dynamic construction industry,” said Patrick Suermann, professor and department head.

Park developers will share construction updates and grand opening information online at digworldtx.com.

Dig World founders Robinson and Bennett intend to open additional park locations throughout the country over the coming years.

Extreme Sandbox, another construction-themed concept, operates in Sachse, a Texas town north of Dallas. The 10-acre park bills itself as an “extreme adventure company focused on giving you the ultimate experience.”

Geared toward both adults and children ages 10 and up, experiences on offer here include equipment demonstrations, opportunities to operate heavy construction equipment and car-crushing -- though this particular activity isn’t thoroughly explained on the park’s website, it seems somewhat self-explanatory.
