HOUSTON – Four new “mini murals” have installed around Houston’s Northside area as part of a project to bring attention to human trafficking.

According to a press release, four traffic signal cabinets have been painted by local Houston-area artists to bring visibility to anyone passing by, along with a phone number to the National Human Trafficking Hotline. The four selected sites were selected based on 311 data and reports from area electors.

City of Houston’s District H Councilmember Karla Cisneros helped initiate and fund the Mini Murals project to reach out to victims of human trafficking along with support from Mayor Sylvester Turner’s Office of Human Trafficking and Domestic Violence, the release said.

January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month and January 11 is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. The day also celebrates #WearBlueDay, designed to educate the public to recognize the signs of human trafficking and how to respond to law enforcement.
