LIST: Houston-area school, college schedule changes because of Beta

HOUSTON – A number of Houston-area school districts and colleges are canceling or modifying schedules because of Beta. Here’s a list of the information we have been provided by the districts or institutions.

  • Aldine ISD - Will continue remote learning and remote working on Wednesday, Sept. 23, out of caution and based on Tuesday evening’s weather forecast. AISD buildings remain closed. After-school activities and extracurricular activities have been canceled and will resume on Thursday, Sept. 24.
  • Alief ISD - Open for normal SPED in-person learning and online learning for all other students. All staff are to report to work.
  • Channelview ISD - All students and staff will work remotely Wednesday.
  • Clear Creek ISD - Closed Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, due to Tropical Storm Beta. The district plans to reopen Thursday.
  • Conroe ISD - Both in-person and remote learning will take place Wednesday.
  • Cy-Fair ISD - All CFISD schools and facilities are open today, Wednesday, Sept. 23.
  • Dayton ISD - The district will be closing school for Wednesday, Sept. 23.
  • Dickinson ISD - Dickinson ISD will remain closed Wednesday, Sept. 23. The district will reopen Thursday.
  • Friendswood ISD - Closed Wednesday, Sept. 23.
  • Galena Park ISD - Will operate all campuses and district operations virtually (from the homes of staff). Classes will continue to operate on a virtual basis.
  • Galveston ISD - Galveston ISD has canceled all on-site and remote classes for Wednesday, September 23 due to ongoing flooding conditions caused by Tropical Storm Beta. All GISD athletics can resume practice and competition after 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The district will continue to consult with local and state authorities in order to make the best decisions concerning the safety of our students and staff.
  • HISD - All Houston Independent School District facilities and offices will close on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Online instruction will continue as long as internet connectivity and power remain intact. Digital Learning Centers will be closed. District facilities are scheduled to reopen on Thursday, September 24, pending road and weather conditions.
  • Holy Ghost Catholic School - Will remain closed Wednesday.
  • Humble ISD - Humble ISD schools and buildings are OPEN on Wednesday, Sept. 23, following Tropical Storm Beta. Classes will be on campus. School activities resume. Virtual school continues for online students.
  • Klein ISD - Klein ISD will return to normal operations today, Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Klein Online students will continue to learn online and Klein On-Campus students will return to their campus. Staff will report to their normal work location. All Klein2Go meal distribution sites will resume distribution Thursday, September 24, 2020. See https://kisd.us/food for specific updates regarding Klein2Go.
  • La Porte ISD- La Porte ISD will reopen Wednesday.
  • Liberty ISD - In order to ensure the safety of all Liberty ISD students and staff, classes are cancelled for Wednesday, September 23rd due to potential flooding conditions related to Tropical Depression Beta. Please monitor Liberty ISD’s website and Facebook.
  • Matagorda ISD - Will reopen Wednesday, September 23rd.
  • Pasadena ISD - For the continued safety of students, staff and all the communities we serve, Pasadena ISD will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23, 2020 due to the continual rain bands throughout the greater Houston area. This closure is for face-to-face and virtual students. Classes (both virtual and face-to-face) will resume Thursday, September 24, 2020. If the weather continues to improve, we will notify parents and students through coaches, directors and sponsors about the possibility of extra-curricular activities resuming later tomorrow. Please continue to monitor our website and social media for any updates.
  • San Jacinto College - San Jacinto College will extend online learning and remote work for Wednesday, Sept. 23.
  • Santa Fe ISD - Santa Fe ISD will remain closed Wednesday due to Tropical Storm Beta and will reopen Thursday.
  • Sheldon ISD - More rain and the potential of flash flooding is expected this evening and overnight in our East Harris County area. Because of this, we have made the decision to operate remotely tomorrow. We will still have virtual classes tomorrow, Wednesday, September 23.
  • Spring ISD - Please be advised that Spring ISD will be learning and working remotely on Wednesday, Sept. 23 because of hazardous weather. Teachers will provide virtual instruction and all staff will work from home.
  • Spring Branch ISD - Regular school day for students and work day for employees today on Wednesday, Sept. 23. All in-person learners should report to school on their regular schedules, and all distance learners should follow their normal distance learning schedules. For in-person learners, district bus schedules will run on their normal schedules. Families of in-person learners are also reminded to do the daily health screener before children leave for school – today and every day! All before and after school activities will occur as planned.
  • Stafford MSD - All staff and students should stay home and work remote. No afterschool activities. No transportation. Meal curbside and delivery services are rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24.
  • Saint Thomas' Episcopal School - There will be a delayed start on Wednesday, Sept. 23. Its preschool will start at 9 a.m. and its K-12 grades will start at 10 a.m.
  • St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School - No on campus and no virtual school on Wednesday, Sept. 23.
  • The Tenney School - Building closed. All classes will be held remotely.
  • Texas City ISD - Texas City ISD will remain closed Wednesday due to the threat of Tropical Storm Beta. The district will reopen Thursday.
  • Tomball ISD - Tomball ISD schools and facilities are open Wednesday, Sept. 23 and the district will operate on a normal schedule.
  • University of Houston - University of Houston, including UH at Katy and Sugar Land, will continue remote operations for Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, due to the continued threat of severe weather associated with the remnants of Tropical Storm Beta. All classes will be held online. Employees are instructed to work remotely. Essential staff will be contacted by their supervisors. Services on campus will be limited. Please continue to pay close attention to forecasts and conditions in your immediate area and stay safe. UH will post further updates at www.uh.edu/emergency.
  • University of Houston-Clear Lake - University of Houston-Clear Lake, including Pearland and TMC locations, will be open Wednesday, September 23, 2020. The Clear Lake location will have a delayed start at noon for all in-person classes and employees reporting to campus. Classes and operations at the Pearland and TMC locations will be provided remotely. Online classes will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at their regularly scheduled times; students should contact their professors if they have questions or concerns. Employees are instructed to work remotely if possible.
  • University of St. Thomas - Campus open. Classes continue online.
  • Waller ISD - All Waller ISD schools and offices will be open Wednesday, Sept. 23 and operate on normal schedules.
