RICHMOND, Texas – Fort Bend County Judge K.P. George gave an update on the spread of coronavirus within the Fort Bend community.
He was joined by Fort Bend County Health and Human Services Director Dr. Jacquelyn Johnson-Minter, who talked about the new way Fort Bend County is tracking numbers.

According to Minter, residents will see an increase in cases because the county will now be tracking cases using Texas Health Trace -- the state’s data management and contact tracing system -- instead of individual hospitals, laboratories and medical clinics.
Minter said that as a result of the change, the county will be reporting a large number of cases that were not previously accounted for, causing a significant increase in data.
“Though you will see large amounts of additional cases, only a portion of these will be newly-confirmed cases,” Minter said. “To assist the public in understanding the data that’s put on the hub, we will provide identification of which cases were in the database before and which cases are currently new cases.”
According to Minter, the county is committed to providing accurate data in order for the community to be able to make the best decisions regarding coronavirus.
“As we are discussing our data, let’s remember that each of these numbers represents our family, our friends and our neighbors in our community,” Minter said. “Some of these people may be very vulnerable, so we want to continue doing those things to protect each other, like wearing our masks, social-distancing and washing our hands.”
George echoed Minter’s point saying that people in the community need to be careful, and just because you are healthy doesn’t mean you won’t bring the virus home to a loved one.
