5-year-old girl one of 6 people shot in Katy after families opened fire on one another: HCSO

KATY, Texas – A 5-year-old girl was among the six people shot Sunday night after a shooting possibly between two neighbors in Katy, officials said.

Overnight, the Katy neighborhood was draped in crime scene tape as detectives investigated the shootout.

“Unfortunately, when you resort to taking things into your own hands and getting a weapon it never turns out to be a good situation for anyone,” said Harris County Sheriff’s Office Captain Joe Ambriz.

Authorities say the incident started around 9:15 p.m. when a 24-year-old man was arguing with another neighbor, a 62-year-old man. Police said the 24-year-old went to grab a shotgun, came back and opened fire outside a home, hitting five people, which included three women, a 5-year-old girl and the 62-year-old man who returned fire with a pistol, striking the 24-year-old.

Everyone is expected to survive their injuries, however, no one has been arrested as investigators are still collecting evidence and reviewing video of the incident that a neighbor provided. Once the investigation is complete, the DA’s Office will decide what charges will come from this shootout.
