LIST: Houston-area events canceled because of coronavirus

HOUSTON – A list of events has been either canceled or postponed due to the growing threat and spread of the coronavirus.

Events:

  • Comicpalooza leadership has decided to cancel this year’s show, which was scheduled for Memorial Day weekend.
  • The Houston Ballet Spring Nutcracker Market, scheduled to begin April 17 at NRG Center, has been canceled because of coronavirus concerns. Read more here.
  • Alley Theatre has canceled all performances, events, camps and classes through March 31. All events after March are expected to take place as planned.
  • The Austin Rodeo is canceled.
  • Capital IDEA Houston is canceling all public events scheduled in March 2020.
  • Cirque Du Soleil is postponing ALEGRIA performances in Houston. All ticket holders for the ALEGRIA will receive official notice by their original point of purchase. For more information about the rescheduled events, click here.
  • Chimpanzee Discovery Day at Chimp Haven has been canceled.
  • Cynthia Wood Mitchell Pavilion: All events and activities have been postponed or canceled. Box office is closed until further notice. Administrative offices closed March 17 and scheduled to reopen April 1. Fans can get their questions answered by emailing info@woodlandscenter.org.
  • All events at Discovery Green canceled until April 1 (The Roller Rink, The Lake House and The Grove will remain open).
  • The Fort Bend Women’s Conference has been postponed until Nov. 14, 2020.
  • The Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation (FWCRC) has canceled the 7th Annual Lyons Avenue Renaissance Festival.
  • The FM 1960 St. Patrick’s Parade has been canceled.
  • All Harris County Precinct 2 community centers are closed starting on March 16 and all county events are canceled.
  • The 7th Annual HeART & Harmony Gala will not be held as scheduled on March 20, 2020 at The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum.
  • Houston First Corporation is canceling its “Party on the Plaza” concert scheduled for March 26. The remaining concerts in the series — April 9, 23, and May 7 — have been put on hold until further notice.
  • Houston Grand Opera (HGO) announced that all performances of Salome and The Magic Flute, as well as all events associated, have been canceled.

  • Houston Rodeo concerts canceled: Kane Brown, Cody Johnson, Lizzo, Jon Pardi, Dierks Bentley, Keith Urban, Gwen Stefani, Khalid, Chris Stapleton, Marshmello, Braid Paisley and Luke Bryan.
  • Houston’s St. Patrick’s Day Festival scheduled on March 15 canceled.
  • Houston Symphony cancels the remaining performances in March. Here are the following performances that were canceled: Adams’ El Niño, Swing to Rock with Dave Bennett, Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20.
  • Insperity Invitational: Canceled.
  • Miller Outdoor Theatre: Performances postponed through the end of May.
  • McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival scheduled for April 4 and 5 in Downtown Houston has been postponed.
  • Montgomery County Fair has canceled and will not be rescheduled.
  • NASA temporarily suspends production and testing of Space Launch System and Orion hardware until further notice.
  • PAW Patrol Live!: Race to the Rescue has been postponed.
  • Puptopia Festival has been rescheduled at Discovery Green to May 16. The Puptopia Festival in Austin has been moved to May 23 at Mueller Lake Park.
  • Saint Arnolds canceled all events at the brewery and events they are involved in due to the coronavirus concerns.
  • Sam Houston Race Park: The remaining four days of its current Thoroughbred Meet. The upcoming Quarter Horse Meet will also be canceled.
  • Shen Yun Houston has been canceled. It was scheduled for March 25-29.
  • Sights & Sounds Festival has been postponed.
  • Society for the Performing Arts (SPA) announced that it will postpone all events through the month of March.
  • All events occurring at Spring Fire Department facilities have been canceled until further notice.
  • Stages: All performances halted until May 17. Rescheduled dates can be found here.
  • Tacos Over Texas 2020 has been canceled.
  • Texas Library Association cancels convention in Houston March 24-27.
  • The Tomball German Heritage Festival, scheduled for March 27th - 29th, and the Honky Tonk Chili Challenge on March 21st have been canceled.
  • The University of Houston canceled Frontier Fiesta 2020.
  • 8th Wonder Brewery has postponed its 7th Annual Celebr8ion until further notice.
  • 2020 IRONMAN Texas triathlon for April 25 has been postponed until further notice.
  • 2020 Offshore Technology Conference in Houston has postponed its conference from May 4-7 to the third quarter of this year.
  • 2020 Tour de Houston scheduled for March 15 has been postponed until further notice.

Activities

  • Galveston public amusement venues closed. This includes museums and theme parks, such as Pleasure Pier and Moody Gardens.
  • Houston Habitat for Humanity has canceled all volunteer activities until April 14.
  • Holocaust Museum Houston canceled all public programs and guided tours through March 31.
  • Houston Zoo will close March 13 at 7 p.m. and will reopen April 3.
  • Lone Star Flight Museum will be closed through March 31
  • Spring Break activities at Houston’s Levy Park scheduled March 16-20 canceled.
  • Stafford Centre, Stafford Civic Center and Stafford Municipal Poll closed until April 10.
  • Space Center Houston is closed until further notice.

Churches

  • The Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston has canceled all Mass and has closed all Archdiocesan Catholic schools until April 10. Baptism for babies are to be postponed, “unless there is danger of death." Weddings are limited to the celebration of the Marriage Rite outside of Mass itself, with no more than 10 persons in attendance, including ministers.
  • The Church Without Walls will not host an in-person service. People can watch online at Churchwithoutwalls.org. All meetings and gatherings outside of the Sunday worship services have also been suspended through March 21.
  • Congregation Beth Israel - Houston, TX Shabbat services have been canceled due to an abundance of caution for our congregants. Additional important updates on this weekend’s worship schedule and upcoming events can be found on their Facebook page.
  • Hope City has canceled in-person services. You can watch services online on Facebook and YouTube.
  • Houston’s First Baptist Church will be hosting online services only on March 15. You can read more information on the website.

  • West Conroe Baptist Church: meetings have been canceled until further notice. Check the church’s website for more information.

Other

  • Eliz Markowitz campaign has suspended all future events and rallies.
  • Harris County Criminal Courts #8 bond dockets (except arraignments) canceled.
  • Several Houston-area hospital groups changing visitation policies.
  • Veterans Administration canceled all scheduled Friday and Saturday veterans legal clinics held at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) until further notice.
