CYPRESS, Texas – Investigators are looking for a burglar who stole thousands of dollars in purses, handbags and jewelry last month from a home in Cypress.
Surveillance video of the Oct. 19 crime showed the burglar disabling a motion sensor light in the yard before breaking into the house through the master bathroom window.
The burglar can be seen rummaging through the closet for a few minutes before the person realizes there’s a camera in the closet. The burglar then throws boxes of ammunition at the camera.
The burglar took off in a white, late model, C-class Mercedes sedan.
Harris County Precinct 5 Constable Ted Heap said he hopes someone recognizes the car or the burglar, even though much of the person’s face is covered.
“We were terrified," said Dustin Jones, who lives next door and was home at the time of the burglary. "We were scared. We didn’t hear a thing. The broken glass, him coming in and out, we didn’t see anything.”
Neighbors and the owners of the targeted home banded together to form a neighborhood watch group.
“We have a close-knit neighborhood now, which we didn’t have before, because of this,” Jones said. “Something bad turned into something really good for our neighborhood.”

The burglar is described in the Constable’s office press release as a “light-skinned black male” who is left-handed, and at the time was “wearing black under armour sweatpants, a navy blue hoodie, a black jacket, dark shoes with tan soles and dark ski gloves that have white and red stripes across the back of the hand.”
