Hail Mary for North Shore High School earns team state title

GALENA PARK, Texas – What a night for the history books as North Shore High School brings home the state title following a miracle Hail Mary play in the match against Duncanville High School.

It was down to the wire when Dematrius Davis threw the ball 45 yards to A.J. Carter for a stunning victory of 41-36,making North Shore the Class 6A Division I state champs.

Team members arrived back from Arlington early Sunday morning wearing their medals.

"Christmas arrived early today," team players told KPRC as they exited the bus following the trip back from Arlington. 

"Oh, this is awesome. This is awesome for the community, awesome for the boys. They did a great job," said parent Corey Flagg.

The football team won the title for the third time in school history. 

”I expected it. We was ready for it. We worked hard every day,” said defensive end Ashton Reynolds.

While quarterback Davis, and wide receiver Carter were standouts, players say the win happened because of teamwork, practice and faith."

“No matter what’s going on in the game or in life and everything else,  just faith, faith, faith.  And God’s just on our side tonight,” said receiver Chance Pillar.
