Spencer Solves It: Family gets new windows after years of dealing with leaks

HOUSTON – At 59 years old and barely able to see because of a rare eye disease, Sharon Huston brushes the dirt off her living room window sill.

That dirt blows in every day through a series of huge cracks and gaps between the windows and the surrounding wall.

“The rain just streams in, it’s unbelievable,” Huston said.

The fact is, all of the windows are leaking and faulty and all of that water pouring in is destroying the floors where Huston and her mother, Norma King, live.

“I’m just heartbroken because I can’t get anybody to come out. They tell us nobody is coming out, you’ll just have to live with it,” King said.

The situation started when Huston and King, both of whom are disabled, signed up for a city of Houston program to replace all of their windows with energy efficient windows, free of charge.

But five years later, the windows are a disaster.

“It’s just devastating, it makes me want to cry,” King said, wiping away tears.

So, with nowhere else to turn, Huston contacted Spencer Solves It.

Right away, we contacted John Litsey, the owner of Window City and Jose Romero with Quality Windows and Doors.

Now, teaming up together, these two window wizards are ripping out all of those old, leaking windows and bringing in a truckload of top-of-the-line, replacement windows.

These are premium vinyl, double paned, double strength replacement windows with silky-smooth movement and tilt-in cleaning.

The total cost of the window and the installation would normally run about $4,000 but Litsey and Romero are doing all of this absolutely free of charge.

“I love them,” Huston said.

Huston and King are floored, not just by the beautiful windows, but by the fact that someone actually took the time to listen to their problem and get them immediate help.

Meeting me outside, directly in front of one of those brand new windows, Huston said, “If it wasn’t for you coming into the community to help people dealing with issues like this, we don’t have a voice, you are our voice, you help us Mr. Spencer. Thank you, thank you.”

We at Spencer Solves It want to send out huge thanks to both Litsey and Romero and their hard-working crews for helping out in this case.
