HOUSTON – What do you get when you mix Owen Wilson, Alan Ritchson, a ruthless cartel and one very important liver? You get ‘Runner,’ a new action-packed thriller hitting theaters September 11.
The movie follows former soldier Hank Malone, played by Alan Ritchson, and an unlikely partner, Ben Bishop, played by Owen Wilson, as they race against the clock to deliver a critical liver to a sick little girl with a very rare blood type.
The pair quickly find themselves being hunted by a dangerous cartel led by Damián Zaldívar, played by Rodrigo Santoro. What follows is a wild, high-speed race filled with car chases, explosions, stunts and plenty of trouble along the way.
Directed by Scott Waugh, ‘Runner’ puts practical action and big-screen thrills front and center, with the cast taking on plenty of intense sequences during filming in Australia.
Aside from growing up in Dallas - Owen also went to the University of Texas at Austin where he met filmmaker Wes Anderson, who became his longtime creative collaborator – and even filmed ‘Rushmore’ right here in Houston.
