Houston Life celebrates 10 years on the air with epic lookback of the broadcast

From pranks to sketches to their television pup, the show’s evolution has brought a lot of laughs

HOUSTON – August 2026 marks 10 years since Houston Life premiered on KPRC 2. Since then the show has broadcast thousands of hours of LIVE TV, has booked thousands of special guests, and has continued to evolve.

“Doing a LIVE show in that setting really was like a giant experiment,” said Derrick Shore, the co-host of the show.

When asked about the early days of Houston Life, when it was broadcasting from the Galleria, Shore explained some of the challenges of producing a show outside a proper television studio.

“For sure – things were going wrong,” he added.

One day, a local chef had arrived early to prepare a chocolate mousse for one of the cooking segments, but during the commercial break, moments before the guest went LIVE, the entire dish slide off the demo table as it was being lifted onto the elevator floor of the set.

“Somebody picked up that table, it wasn’t balanced, and that whole dish went upside down on the floor of the set,” said Courtney Zavala, who co-hosted the program from 2017 through 2023.
