Houston Astros and Chick-fil-A team up for hunger relief

HOUSTON – April’s here, and you know what that means: flowers blooming, baseballs flying, and cookies… saving lives?

Yep, it’s time to step up to the dessert plate, folks. Houston-area Chick-fil-A restaurants are teaming up with the Astros Foundation for a month-long cookie crusade that’s doing more than satisfying cravings—it’s fighting hunger one Chocolate Chunk Cookie at a time.

Here’s how the cookie crumbles: From April 1 to April 30, every time you bite into one of those warm, gooey, chocolatey masterpieces—whether it’s a solo cookie, a six-pack (no, not that kind), or a whole tray—Chick-fil-A will donate a portion of the proceeds to local charities helping feed our Houston neighbors. It’s a win-win: you get cookies, someone else gets dinner. That’s charity math I can get behind.

But wait—there’s more baseball magic. Anytime the Astros load the bases at Daikin Park, Chick-fil-A will donate 1,000 meals to local food pantries. And because the Astros Foundation doesn’t play small ball, they’ll match it, bringing the total to 2,000 meals every time the bases are juiced. That’s what we call a grand slam—with sprinkles of kindness on top.

With more than 120 Chick-fil-A spots across greater Houston, this isn’t some fly-by-night effort. Since the Bases Loaded program started in 2020, Chick-fil-A has helped serve over three million meals to Houstonians. That’s a lot of cookies. And a lot of love.

The Astros Foundation isn’t just here for home runs and hot dogs—they’re tackling the tough stuff: homelessness, youth sports, education, military support, domestic violence prevention, and something close to my heart—childhood cancer awareness.

Speaking of close to the heart… Every Saturday morning, I’m at Chick-fil-A with two chicken biscuits in hand—a tradition that started with my son Ethan and continues as a way to remember him. What I’ve come to love most is how Chick-fil-A isn’t just about food—it’s about community. From supporting families like mine to fighting hunger with efforts like this one, they show up where it matters.

This sweet fundraiser runs through the end of April—but don’t forget, Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays. Plan accordingly. Because nothing says “strikeout” like rolling up craving a cookie and finding locked doors.
